Police are searching for a West Ham United fan after a 70-year-old grandfather was attacked on a train in front of his young family.

The victim was travelling home from a day out in Southend on the August 23 with his wife and three young grandchildren at around 7.20pm.

A man started becoming abusive towards the victim’s wife and gransdon and started swearing, with the victim asking him to stop.

The attacker punched him three times in the head, leaving him with bruising to his face and arm.
The family left the train at Shenfield and the man continued to Stratford.

Investigating officer Kelly Durant said: “This was a brutal and violent attack on a man who was simply standing up to abusive and anti social behaviour.

“This type of violence is not tolerated and we will do all we can to locate the man responsible and bring him to justice.

“The image is clear – if you recognise him or witnessed the shocking incident – I’d urge you to contact police.”

Investigators have released clear CCTV footage of the man wearing a West Ham United shirt.
