‘It feels as though performers are few and far between nowadays. True performers- multi talented, versatile artists, who can put on a show and transfix audiences- appear to be dwindling.’

This was the view I held before I saw Tate McRae in concert.

On the 22nd of April 2024, Tate McRae took to the stage for her first of two sold out nights at Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith, London. As the lights dimmed, the packed venue containing a roaring crowd of thousands of fans seemed to shake from the screaming of the onlookers. A dramatic introduction video played on the screens on stage, showcasing McRae in flashing images, only adding to the anticipation. And then, suddenly, McRae appeared as a dark silhouette in the centre of the stage, launching into the title of track of her 2023 album ‘THINK LATER’.

McRae’s performing abilities are not to be underestimated- her outstanding vocal performance is impressive enough as it stands. However, this is where she begins to stray from the idea of a modern-day performer. McRae is expertly trained in dance. Having made a name for herself in the dance world by the age of 15, the now 20 year old harbours her innate talent when she sings. As she crooned out hit song after hit song, McRae launches into smoothly choregraphed dance routines, joined by her backup dancers. The show was incredibly visually impressive- the constant flawless dancing as well as the use of visuals on the screens make for an outstanding show.

McRae has successfully created her own style of performing, and her confidence on stage- whether it be when she is singing, or dancing- is apparent. McRae is a true, natural- born performer.
