Police have discovered the body of a young woman in a suitcase in Birmingham - two months after a South Norwood man was charged with her murder.
Banaz Mahmod Babakir Agha went missing from her home in Mitcham in January. Police were investigating the possibility that she had been the victim of an 'honour killing'.
She was last seen at 5.50pm on January 23, in Cricket Green, Mitcham. Banaz, who was Kurdish, did not withdraw any money after her disappearance and did not take a change of clothing or passport with her.
That led police to start a murder investigation which led to the arrest of a man in South Norwood.
Addresses in London, Birmingham and Sheffield were searched and several people were arrested as part of the probe.
The 20-year-old's remains were discovered in a suitcase buried in the garden of a house in the Midlands last week.
Mohamad Marid Hama, 29, appeared in court in February charged with murder and was due to appear at the Old Bailey next week.
After the discovery of the corpse detectives also charged her uncle, Ari Mahmod Babakir Aga, 50, of Mitcham, with murder.
He appeared before Woolwich magistrates on Monday and was remanded in custody. It is not known when his next court appearance is likely to be.
Five of the people arrested earlier in the year were rearrested on Saturday and taken to police stations in London for questioning.
Four were later released on bail and are expected to return to police stations later in the year.
