A Mitcham mum was given the shock of her life after finding a wooden cross and bones hidden in her home - fearing it could be human remains.
Synthia Williams, of Commonside East, removed a panel covering a fire place in her seven-year-old son’s room, only to discover the disturbing seven-inch skeleton of a rat.
She had been decorating the room with a friend and both were spooked by the find, not knowing what to think.
“We moved a panel from the front of the fire place and the first thing I noticed was a wooden cross, tucked in there,” said the St George’s Hospital worker.
“I thought that was odd and told my friend who was decorating. He said ‘look, there are a load of bones in here’.
“I wasn’t really scared by it at first and just though it was really weird, but my partner rang me at the time and came round to take a picture.”
After seeing the bones lit up by the camera, they saw the skeleton for the first time and were initially convinced it was a human.
“It’s the first time I’ve seen anything like it,” added Ms Williams.
“When I first moved here I had a funny feeling about the room. I even said to someone that I didn’t feel comfortable in there and that it felt eerie.
“My sister even came round and said she didn’t have a nice feeling about that particular room.
“I don’t want this to sound like a ghost story, but I remember when I first moved in and there were strange sounds coming from the place, like people moving around.”
