METROPOLITAN POLICE 2 SITTINGBOURNE 1

Metropolitan Police made hard work of this before finally snatching the winning goal in spectacular circumstances.

It was, however, the visitors Sittingbourne who went ahead after only 25 minutes. An attacking move by the Police broke down and the ball was cleared upfield.

Hicham Akhazzan drove forward with a great solo run before driving into the roof of the net from 25 yards out.

The equaliser on 55 minutes came from a corner. The ball fell loose in the six-yard box and there was James Greenaway to volley home.

The winning goal certainly had everyone's attention.

Steve Sargeant picked up a through ball and ran down the left flank towards the Sittingbourne goal.

The visitors goal keeper Chris Lewington crudely fouled Sargeant just inside the penalty area and was given a red card.

Once peace had been restored Craig Carley calmly scored the winner from the resulting spot kick.

The Police could have scored again but striker Craig Brown hit the bar from 30 yards and then had a 22-yard drive well saved.

It was not all good news for the Police as defender Michael Cobden was helped off the field in stoppage time with a leg injury.
