Brett Taylor reckons the constant desire to better themselves is the fuel powering the London Scottish machine to the National League Three South title this season.

With 18 games of the season gone the Exiles remain unbeaten, eight points ahead of second-place Ealing with a game in hand.

And after seeing his side thrash bottom club Havant 61-10 on the road last weekend, Taylor is confident his charges have things under control.

He said: “I have really tried hard to get into the psyche of the players.

“If we focus on what we do then we know we will enjoy playing.

“The challenge for myself is not to look at the opposition, but just focus on ourselves.

“We are all focused on getting better - and I think week by week we are getting better.

“It is not something that usually happens in this country.

“We often take winning for granted and lose that hunger.

“But I want an environment of chronic achieving.

“It is very easy to just turn up and expect to win, but that will never happen at this club.”

And that attitude helped to brush aside Havant last weekend, with Roman Piotrowski (2), Rory Damant (2), Frank Neale, Charlie Broughton, Chris Johnston, Andy fahey and Mark Soden all crossing for tries.

Taylor added: “Havant worked really hard and had a good team spirit.

“But we played pretty well in patches.

“The players are pretty hard on themselves and know they made mistakes, but overall I was reasonably pleased.”

Scottish now host another struggling side, Lydney, this weekend.

But Taylor insisted he was not expecting an easy ride.

He added: “Lydney are hard-running, and they are a very physical side.

“They are a very proud club, and they will not roll over.

“We have to earn the right to play our rugby.”
