BRITISH CRICKETER SHOT DEAD ON HOLIDAY
A young promising cricketer from Kennington was shot dead on Sunday the 10th of April while on holiday in Trinidad. Adrian St John was only 22 when he was targeted as he stopped his car in the town of San Juan by two armed burglars. At 8:30pm, the men ordered him to hand over his valuables and told him to drive off, but as he did so, a gunman on the road fired a bullet at his head which ended Adrian St John’s life.
This aspiring young cricketer was tipped to play for the West Indies in the future, and was a coach for the Alleyn cricket club in Dulwich, playing since 2009. He was known to be a very kind, harmless young man, ‘very easy to talk to’ and ‘extremely smart’. He coached some of my closest friends and will be missed in the cricket community. This is a tragic loss for many, and famous West Indies player Chris Gayle tweeted: ‘Such sad news to hear. My condolences to his family & friends. Adrian St John was the captain of the academy. #Sigh’.
Adrian St John was said to be hoping to move to Trinidad to better his game and technique, after he loved the atmosphere of the carnivals. He was a very calm, relaxed man, and his absence will be felt deeply.
