THIS record has shifted nearly a million copies in France since being released a year ago and spent eight weeks at the top of the French charts. And here's me defending French ways and manners to my less than Francophile mates.
This is dreck of the highest order. It's like one of those home-made CDs your aunt buys on holiday when she's a cocktail or six to the good and thinks the local bar singer is Sinatra in Michael Ball's clothing.
Voulzy's thin, grating vocal brings absolutely nothing new to covers of Here There and Everywhere, Light My Fire or Feelin' Groovy. He fails to find anything more to add to Oh Lori, destroys Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime and his treatment of Smooth Operator could incite a riot in a Women's Institute.
