Families were evacuated from their homes after police were called to a 'meth lab' on High Path Estate in South Wimbledon.
Police attended a property in Nelson Grove Road after materials believed to be used in the production of drugs were discovered on Sunday afternoon.
A Met Police spokesperson confirmed that the incident is not being treated as terrorist-related and said that the homes were evacuated to ensure that materials were safe.
A spokesperson said: "At approximately 1.00pm on Sunday, 6 June officers were called to a residential property in Nelson Grove Road, after materials and equipment believed to be used in the production of drugs were discovered.
"Surrounding flats have been evacuated as a precaution while officers, along with other members of the emergency services, ensure all materials are made safe before being removed.
"A man – no further details - has been arrested on suspicion of the production of class A and B drugs and remains in custody.
"Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing."
Firefighters were called to assist the Metropolitan Police at 5.42 pm and the brigade confirmed that the incident was over by 8.25 pm.
