A FOOTBALL club have been left "heartbroken" after the club was plunged partially underwater following flash floods across the UK.

Worcester Park FC have been forced to temporarily close their doors as part of a clean-up operation after flash floods partially damaged the club. 

It comes after parts of the UK were hit with flash flooding which saw homes, tube stations and hospitals affected by heavy rainfall on Sunday ( July 25).

Nearby to the club, the London Fire Brigade could be seen on a rescue mission to save people from a sinking car under Worcester Park Railway Bridge.

In a video released by Worcester Park FC, the clubhouse and kitchen could be seen drenched -  with items completely underwater.

Daniel Eicke, a photographer for a Combines Counties side, has since launched a fundraiser in a bid to support the club to pay for any damages.

A club spokesperson said: "Worcester Park Athletic Club was part of an environment agency scheme following flooding in the area in 2007 which flooded the club as well as local houses.

"It entailed WPAC field being used as a water storage area in the event of Beverley Brook overflowing. That happened on Sunday with a vengeance, the flood and damage was worse than 2007.

"The clubhouse, kitchen and bar were under 2 or 3 feet of water. All fridges, freezers, stock and some TV’s were wrecked.

"The floor and walls have blown. It was a complete mess."

"Given the challenges we faced during Covid and being closed for so long to now be closed again due to the flood is heart breaking for the staff who have worked so hard to keep the club going.

"Any help in the form of a fundraising would be hugely appreciated for what is a not for profit community sports and social club."
