Shoppers have been flocking to a new Flooring Superstore in Lewisham since it opened in June.
The £150,000 store launched in the Catford Hill Retail Park.
It’s the eighth store launched by the company since non-essential retail was allowed to reopen in April – and the retailer’s fifth store in London.
Flooring Superstore has said that footfall at the south east London store has been “particularly high” since opening – with more than 20 per cent more people visiting than originally forecast.
The retailer has put this down to more people focusing on home improvements over the summer with Covid causing holiday uncertainty.
Flooring Superstore regional manager Ian Robinson said: “We couldn’t be happier with how busy the store in Catford has been since it opened in June.
“It’s clear that people are still very much focused on carrying out home improvements at this time especially with luxuries like holidays still uncertain.
“This has been reflected in sales of all types of flooring we stock, whether it’s carpet, wood or even artificial grass for the garden.”
The 5,790 square foot store created four new sales representative roles for local people.
It joins outlets in Croydon, Orpington, Brent Cross and Romford which have opened over the last year.
Mr Robinson added: “We’re different from other flooring stores because of the range of flooring people can buy, but also because as a company which started life purely online less than ten years ago, we are able to offer online pricing in our physical stores too.
“By the middle of 2020 we had no stores in London and now, with Catford, this figures now stands at five, with more in the pipeline.
“Based on the first few months of trading, we’re excited about the contribution we are already making to the local retail economy in Catford and the wider London area.”
Shoppers visiting Flooring Superstore in Catford can buy carpets, vinyl, laminate, real wood, artificial grass and more.
The store is also inviting local charities and voluntary organisations in the area to see if they could benefit from donations of flooring for a particular project.
Mr Robinson said: "It’s something we have always do when we open a new store in an area and is our own little way of giving something back to the local communities who support our stores, so we would be delighted to hear from groups in Catford.”
Donation requests can be emailed to marketing@connectionretail.co.uk.
To mark the opening of the store, Flooring Superstore has also been running a free, instore ‘Golden Ticket’ promotion.
Anyone who comes into the store, regardless of whether they are buying flooring or not, will be invited to take one of 150 tickets.
145 of these tickets will have 15 per cent off flooring, four will give people £250 to spend in-store and one golden ticket will give a lucky person £1,000 to spend on flooring ranges of their choice.
