A social enterprise supporting Sri Lankan migrants is taking its signature dishes this summer to Clapham.
Papi’s Pickles provides tasty South Indian and Sri Lankan food and pickles made by women who relocated to the UK during and after the conflict in Sri Lanka.
After building a name in private catering, street food and weddings, the social enterprise is taking to the Clapham Common North Side to host a pop-up brunch on Sunday, September 5.
For £37 a person, diners can expect four flavoursome courses, including mango curry and coconut squares.
In 2013 Abi, a founder of Papi’s Pickles, met many women who relocated to the UK, especially London, during and after the conflict in Sri Lanka.
She noticed a strong sense of isolation and loss within these communities, and a persistent struggle for women to find work.
However, cooking, food, and community, remained a happy memory from home.
This, coupled with a demand for Tamil cuisine in London, allowed Papi’s Pickles to be born.
Since 2015, the social enterprise has recruited and trained over 25 women, who are paid London Living Wage.
These women have had access to income, support, confidence-building opportunities, English Language skills and food safety certification.
You can show your support at September’s brunch pop-up, with tickets here.
