Travellers who illegally set up camp in Mitcham were ordered to leave the area by police and Merton Council on the weekend.
Illegal encampments were reported to authorities last week who issued a Section 61 notice on Friday ( August 13).
A Section 61 gives officers the power to direct an encampment to leave once the landowner has made reasonable steps to remove the occupants.
It has been confirmed that the notice had been adhered to and the encampment had left the following day on Saturday, August 14.
A spokesperson for Merton Police said: "Police were made aware of an unauthorised encampment at Three Kings Piece in Mitcham.
"The same day, police attended with a representative from Merton Council.
"Officers issued a Section 61 notice with the requirement for the encampment to leave the area by 14:00 hours on the 14th August.
"At 14:00 hours [ on Saturday ], officers attended the location and found that the notice had been adhered to and the encampment had left."
Conditions to meet a Section 61 include:
- Two or more trespassers on land with the common purpose of residing.
- Six or more vehicles
- The use of threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards the occupier, a member of his family or an employee or agent of his.
To report an illegal encampment contact the police on 101.
