Pictured above is Epping Water Tower in c1905.
Built in 1872 after a long campaign by a local doctor called John Clegg who was dismayed by Epping having the highest death rate in the whole of Essex, from cholera and typhoid, due to poor sanitary conditions in the town.
Clegg successfully petitioned the Home Office and Epping became one of only seven places in the British Isles where the local authority were ordered to carry out the improvements.
