A MAN is due in court today in connection with the deaths of 39 Vietnamese nationals in Essex.
Dragos Stefan Damian, 27, a Romanian national of no fixed address, was extradited to the UK yesterday.
It follows his arrest just outside of Milan on Thursday June 10 in connection with Essex Police's ongoing investigation into the deaths of 39 people who were discovered in a lorry trailer in Grays in October 2019.
He has been charged with conspiracy to assist unlawful immigration and encouraging or assisting the commission of an offence.
The charge comes after seven people smugglers received a combined total of 92 years in jail for smuggling in the 39 people from Vietnam in a lorry.
The nationals were found unresponsive inside the container, with a huge police investigation launched following the discovery at the Waterglade Industrial Estate in Grays in 2019.
