Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters tackled a fire at a derelict pub in Edgware.
London Fire Brigade says it was called to a fire in Station Road just before 12.30pm.
Fire crews from West Hampstead, Barnet and Stanmore fire stations rushed to the scene, along with colleagues from Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue.
They found that part of the first floor of a three-storey building was alight.
The fire was under control by 2pm and the cause of the blaze is under investigation.
There were no reports of any injuries.
Station Commander James Ryan, who was at the scene, said: "Crews were faced with a significant amount of smoke issuing from the building when they arrived, which had prompted a high volume of calls to our Control Officers.
"Firefighters carried out a systematic search of the building and fortunately, there were no people involved."
He warned that there are significant road closures in place including Station Road in both directions from the junction with Manor Park Crescent to the junction with Methuen Road.
"We would advise motorists to avoid the area where possible as there is heavy traffic and we will be on scene damping down for some time," Commander Ryan said.
