A nursery in Croydon was previously found to have compromised the safety of children, an Ofsted report published in June found.
The Abbey Wood Grange Day Nursery, a private nursery in South Croydon, was rated 'Inadequate' on various measures including in its 'Overall Effectiveness' rating according to the report, which was dated June 8 this year.
The nursery's Overall Effectiveness at the previous inspection had been ranked 'Good'.
In the opening line of the Ofsted findings, under the heading 'What is it like to attend this early years setting?, the report read:
"Children's safety and well-being are compromised at this nursery. This is because the provider fails to meet a number of requirements of the early years foundation stage," adding that "despite this, "most children are happy and settled".

In a later passage under the sub-heading of safe-guarding, the report read:
"The arrangements for safeguarding are not effective. Leaders fail to follow their own safeguarding procedures in notifying the relevant agencies when a significant incident has occurred, as required. Some staff do not use the nursery's whistle-blowing procedures when children's safety is compromised."
Ofsted said their inspectors discussed the impact of the pandemic with the provider at the nursery "and have taken that into account in their evaluation of the provider".
A later update was posted by the inspectorate on August 6, and this showed signs of improvement.
According to the August 6 report: "At this visit, we also checked whether the provider had met the safeguarding and welfare actions raised at their last inspection... We found that the provider had ensured staff deployment is effective to supervise children appropriately. They put effective supervision arrangements in place to help support staff and improve their practice. The provider also ensured that all staff improved their knowledge and understanding of the nursery's policies and procedures, especially if they have a concern about a member of staff, including leaders. They now fully understand their responsibilities. We are satisfied the provider has met the safeguarding and welfare actions raised."
