At approximately 12.45 on Thursday the 12th October, 2021, four local college students of the ages between 17-18 were drivng along the A242 towards Reigate Town Centre, when they were hit side on by another travelling vehicle.
The crash occurred a mere 0.7 miles away from Reigate College, where around 2,500 attend. With a constant stream of students travelling in and out of college, many of whom across the A242, the sudden crash posed immediate threat to not only those involved, but to the exposed students nearby.
Acting in quick response to the accident, a local neighbour called emergency services, including both police and an ambulance. Although no one was visibly harmed upon collision, the medical services provided aid upon examination of any other potential injuries, such as concussion. Simultaneously, the police were able to analyse the situation and at 13.40 the young men were seen to be breathalysed.
Upon waiting for the ambulance's arrival, I managed to speak to one of the boys involved. Visibly, the group of students appeared shaken up, however remained calm and were more than willing to tell me about what happened when approached. The unnamed individuals were on their break from ESC - East Surrey College (1.7 miles away from the crash site) - and on their way to Nando's in Reigate town centre. The young individual stated that "it was a bit of a blind corner" however "obviously it wasn't really [their] fault", as it was their right of way along the main road when "this lady tried to pull out", resulting in immense damage to both of the cars involved.
However, considering the severity of the situation, the four boys all seemed more concerned about their lack of Nando's, than the crash itself!
Not long after speaking to the ESC student, law enforcement arrived and took quick control of the situation, asserting safety and providing aid to bot involved parties.
Days since the accident, no more information has surfaced - although hazardous debris from both cars has been left littered across the A242, thus further prolonging the potential danger imposed upon the local public - including thousands of college students.
