A BBC documentary series about the nursing staff at Redbridge hospitals has won an award.
The show, Saving Our Nurses, focused on an initiative by Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust designed to reduce the number of nurses leaving their jobs during the pandemic.
The five part series showcases the relationship between young nurses and their more experienced mentors, who provide emotional support on tough days, listen to concerns and give the newly qualified recruits the motivation to keep going.
The programme, which first aired in June last year, scooped Best Daytime Programme in the Royal Television Society’s North West awards, held on Saturday November 20.
Beverley Sawer, our Senior Intern Team lead, said: “I was delighted for our team to win this award. We’re so proud of the work our interns do in supporting our nurses, which is more important now than ever due to the pandemic.
“Taking part in this documentary was a great way to share the work we do, and we were so proud that it boosted interest in nurses wanting to come and work at our Trust when it aired last year. To be recognised in the Royal Television Society awards really is the icing on the cake.”
