Whenever a new store opens the rest suffer.

On Whalebone Lane South, there are four groceries stores: Lidl, Morrison, Asda and Iceland.

In 2012, there were only two stores, Morrison and Iceland, in the eyes of the public it did not look like competition.

In 2013 Asda open and it made a huge impact on the whole competition. More than 220 people have found jobs at the store which has more than 320 customer car parking spaces. It was a 29,000sq ft building will include a fresh pizza counter and bakery section, a George clothing section and a non-food section offering homeware and technology.

However, on 8th July 2021 Lidl opened. That is when the competition really went up. The first Lidl supermarket was in Germany opened in 1973. Following positive customer feedback, they quickly expanded and by the 1980s, Lidl had become a household name. The first Lidl in the UK opened in 1994 and now there is over 750 stores across Britain.

Many people only go to Lidl for their everyday shopping. “I only like going to Lidl, because I always find new items and they are mostly half-price from their original price.” Said by Neelam, who feels like Lidl suits her the best than the other stores around her and her house.

The store created 40 new jobs. Not only that the store is normally filled with people. Tills and tills are covered with people. Showing that people like going to Lidl, there could be many reasons for it; half-priced items, good parking space and the normally quality that should be there in every store is present there.
