You may or may not have heard of the phrase some people believe in “new year, new me”, well everyone has their own opinions but I feel like new year’s resolutions can be made possible if you take it slowly, at your own pace and keep yourselves motivated. It also depends on the resolutions you make and whether they are appropriate to you. It is very important and difficult to find good resolutions that not only challenge you but are also attainable. To help those who wish to improve their lifestyle and live their best life, here are a few resolutions to consider.
First of all, a good resolution could be to get into the habit of reading. This is a very useful and good habit to have since books are not only enjoyable to read as a hobby but also some books can teach you very valuable life lessons. It can help expand your knowledge and vocabulary in reality also. It is also scientifically proven that this habit can: reduce stress, lowers blood pressure and heart rate. Reading would also aid in fighting depression symptoms. If this may be difficult for you since you’d be starting this activity after a long period, it is better you start small and expand later. Maybe read for 20 minutes every day or read a chapter a day, start according to your preference then build up from there. Your goal for this year may be to read 1 book per month, so by the end of 2022 you would have read 2 books. It is also very important that you find a genre that you really like because there are many different types of books and forcing yourself to read the wrong book can put you off reading altogether, so make sure you discover the genre perfect for you.
Second of all, this new year would be a really good time to start to learn a new skill/hobby. This could include cooking, painting, drawing, dancing, learning how to play a new instrument and many more. It is always good to know how to do things and expand your knowledge. Skills such as cooking and sewing are really important life skills that can aid you at any time in your life, so it is always better to learn how to do them. We are living in the 21st century where almost everything is available on the internet, so maybe watch a few videos as to how to do your chosen skill/hobby or maybe you could self-teach yourself, they do say ‘practise makes perfect’. It is crucial to have relaxation time, away from work, and spend time doing something you enjoy, this would be a good time to discover a new time passing activity you like.
Finally, take this new year to take care of yourself. We all know that the past year has been a very rough journey for us due to COVID-19, lockdowns, work pressure and many more, so take a little time each day to yourself. You could take part in meditation, yoga, at home workout, long hot baths, maybe hit the gym, write in a journal to clear your mind. There are many more things you can do but these are just a few examples.
In conclusion, be happy, avoid negativity and toxic environments, spread happiness and positive energy. Remember that it's ok to 'fail', you just have to bring yourself back again and find the motivation to continue. Maybe you should start with short term goals to help achieve your long term goal.
