A disused police station in Bromley Road in Catford will be transformed into 65 homes.
Phoenix Community Housing has purchased the building, which closed in 2017, and will develop proposals for the site throughout 2022.
Lewisham residents will soon be able to benefit from the affordable homes and parts of the original building will be incorporated into the design.
Resident-led organisation Phoenix hopes the development will ease pressures on Lewisham’s housing waiting list.
Early proposals include up to 65 affordable homes and residents will be involved in the shaping of the plans as they develop through a range of consultation events.
Proposals for employment and training facilities for the community are also included.
Chair of the Phoenix Community Housing Board and tenant, Carmen Simpson, said: “This is a great opportunity to provide much needed high-quality homes for south Lewisham, while maintaining the character and distinctiveness of the area.
“Over the coming weeks and months, we will agree a delivery plan, including how we will involve local people and the types of homes we will provide.
"I can’t wait to see the plans develop.”
Phoenix’s model intends to support community initiatives to improve the lives of those living and working in Lewisham.
Last year, Phoenix was awarded the GLA award at the 2021 Housing Design Awards after developing 32 highly sustainable homes at Lewisham’s Melfield Gardens.
