Greenwich Park will be closed Friday (February 18) to ensure public safety as London braces itself for Storm Eunice.

The Royal Parks is also shutting Richmond Park and Bushy Park, as forecasters warn of winds exceeding 50mph in south east London.

An amber warning has been issued across the whole of England from 5am to 9pm.

A spokesperson for The Royal Parks tweeted: “Please be aware that Richmond, Bushy and Greenwich Park will be closed all day on Friday, February 18.

“All other parks will remain open, although playgrounds will be closed.

“This decision is based on the strong winds, the age and vulnerability of trees in particular parks.”

All parks will reopen on Saturday, providing it is deemed safe to do so.

Rail companies operating in south east London have also advised passengers not to travel on their services.

Southeastern and Southern both anticipate significant disruption on Friday (February 18), with delays and cancellations expected due to trees and debris blowing onto the tracks.

Jacqueline Starr, chief executive at the Rail Delivery Group, said that while rail companies are “working hard to keep people moving safely”, journeys will be disrupted.

She added: “We’re asking people to plan their travel for a different day if possible or to check and re-check before they travel.”
