The London Fire Brigade has urged people to only call in an emergency as the service struggles to cope while the capital is battered by Storm Eunice.
LFB revealed shortly before midday that it has already received twice its daily average number of calls.
Offering an example of the sorts of non-emergency calls made to the service, LFB revealed someone had dialled 999 because their tent blew into a neighbour's garden.

London Fire Brigade tweeted: “Our Control Officers have already taken their daily average number of calls and it's not even midday.
“Someone has called to say their tent has blown into a neighbour's garden.
“PLEASE only call 999 in a genuine emergency or if there's an immediate risk to life.”
