The Royal Mail has suspended deliveries and closed post offices as Storm Eunice’s high-speed winds continue to sweep London.
The postal service announced on Friday afternoon that areas issued with a red warning by the Met Office will see a halt in services as the courier company prioritises staff safety.
Areas covered by an amber warning are still being assessed by Royal Mail and risk is being established using local knowledge.
A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “We expect Storm Eunice to cause severe disruption to the delivery, collection and distribution of mail across the country.
“In areas for which the Met Office has issued a Red Warning, we have had no choice but to suspend deliveries and close our Delivery Offices.
“In areas covered by an Amber Warning, we are assessing risk based on local knowledge, and will keep services running where possible. We will be reviewing the situation throughout the day, while continuing to prioritise the safety of our staff and customers.”
