A local pub has banned Russian products from its venue and replaced them with Ukrainian-branded alternatives.
As Russia continues its attack on Ukraine, the team at the Flowerpot at Wood Street, Walthamstow, decided to show solidarity with the Ukrainians by replacing all Russian drinks during the crisis.
Heather Swainson, part of the pub’s team, said: “We have decided to take this decision so that we can play a small role in sending a message to President Putin and the Russian nation that British businesses do not agree with the atrocities that they are committing against the people of Ukraine, and that we stand together with Ukraine in their fight for freedom.”
She added that Walthamstow is a “culturally diverse” area and many locals originating from Ukraine and neighbouring areas are “feeling the plight” of the war going on.
Some of the new brands brought in to show their support for Ukraine include Nemiroff de luxe honey pepper vodka, Nemiroff wild cranberry vodka, Nemiroff bold orange vodka, Nemiroff burning pear vodka.
Proprietor Tony Leslie said: "Ukraine branded products are proving difficult to find and we are urging big supermarket chains to also stock them, and other beers which we are sure will help the cause.
"This has become very popular with our customers and is selling well."
