Two people escaped a house fire in Bromley on Saturday.
Part of the first floor of a house on Ivorydown in Grove Park was damaged by fire.
Firefighters were called at 10.26pm and by 11.26pm the fire was under control.
Two people left the building before the Brigade arrived.
They were assessed by London Ambulance Service crews.
The fire is thought to have been started by a candle.
In the wake of the incident, the London Fire Brigade has issued a warning about candle burning.
A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade said: “Firefighters have issued a candle safety reminder after a house fire on Ivorydown in Grove Park. “Part of the first floor of an end-of-terrace house was damaged by fire.
“Two people left the building before the Brigade arrived and were assessed on scene by London Ambulance Service crews.
“The cause of the fire is believed to have involved a candle.
“Candles, incense sticks and oil burners are one of the most common causes of fire.
“We’d recommend swapping traditional candles for safer flameless LED alternatives, but if you do use real candles, it’s so important to never leave them unattended.
“Always make sure that they’re held firmly in heat-resistant holders and placed on a stable surface where they won’t be knocked over.
“The Brigade was called at 2226 and the fire was under control by 2326. Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from Bromley, Lewisham and Eltham fire stations attended the scene.”
Firefighters' candle safety top tips are:
- Make sure you put out any candles, incense and oil burners when you leave the room and especially before bed
- Keep them away from materials that might catch fire - that's things like curtains, furniture, clothes and hair
- Be aware that tea lights get very hot and without proper holders can melt through plastic surfaces like a TV or bath
- LED candles can be a great alternative - they're safe even if you fall asleep or forget to blow them out
