A van that was seized by the police after illegal fly tipping in Bexley has been crushed.
Officers and the Council's Enviro-Crime team found the vehicle without a valid waste license during an operation.
The van was also reportedly found transporting waste without an appropriate waste transfer note.
After further investigations, a decision was made to decontaminate and crush the vehicle and for it then to be recycled.
Any reusable parts were taken from the vehicle and kept by the police.
London Borough of Bexley’s cabinet member for Places, councilor Peter Craske said: “We’ve always been clear that we have zero tolerance of fly tipping and of those who do it. This case shows what we mean by that, and we have a very simple message – don’t ruin our Borough by fly tipping.”
A statement from Bexley Council said: “A van that was seized for illegally dumping waste has been crushed as part of a crackdown on fly tippers to help keep Bexley clean and green.
“During a joint operation with the Metropolitan Police Service, the Council’s Enviro-Crime team found that the vehicle which was transporting waste did not have a valid waste carrier licence or appropriate waste transfer notes which is against the law.
“It is also evidence that the vehicle is illegally fly tipping.
“The van was seized and after further investigations a decision was made to decontaminate and crush the vehicle and for it then to be recycled.
“Any re-useable parts were taken from the vehicle and kept.”
