I recently experienced Monopoly Lifesized, a brand new, immersive spin on the classic board game that we all know and love.
Located in the heart of London, the attraction combines state-of-the-art technology with the original elements of Monopoly to devise a thrilling experience with four different editions of Monopoly Lifesized to choose from when booking: Luxury, City, Classic and Junior.
The experience starts off with being introduced to teammates and rival teams by Mr Monopoly himself. There are four teams on the board, each with 6 or less people, and every team has its own ‘token’, a friendly guide who will explain the rules and assist you in strategic decisions later on. The aim of the game is to have the largest financial portfolio by the end of the game – this includes money, properties and any houses or hotels built.
Next, players will be taken upstairs to the board itself, and as the name suggests, a life-sized 15x15m board with squares and challenge rooms for each property. On your turn, roll the die. However, landing on an unowned property is not as simple as just buying it! – some of your team must enter the property through a door and complete a time-bound challenge that will put your wits to the test. If you fail, you risk losing that property to one of the rival teams…
On the other hand, if it’s not your team’s turn to roll your die, you’ll receive a chance card and have an opportunity to take a strategy turn. Will you dare to take a Community Chest Card, complete a puzzle to earn some more money or solve a mind-boggling 3D jigsaw puzzle to build a house or even a hotel? You’ll need to use cunning tactics to maximise your profits.
However, there are some special squares on the board that can either catapult you to victory or destroy your chances of becoming the triumphant tycoon. A variety of hidden gems and traps await you: control the city’s energy, water or internet supplies or command the rail network – charging your enemies to travel around the board. But whatever you do, beware Jail – otherwise you’ll have to plot a daring escape to avoid the exorbitant bail.
At the end of 80 minutes of dramatic gameplay, the final victor will be revealed. After all that exhilarating enjoyment, exhausted players will have the opportunity to consume some mouth-watering food at the Top Hat Bar & Restaurant.
Overall, the gameplay on the board works the same way, but Monopoly Lifesized builds on the original version of Monopoly, adding special features to transform the classic game into a high-octane experience. If you’ve not been, then it’s definitely worth a visit.
