A man was arrested on Tooting Common on Wednesday after a spate of catalytic converter thefts across London.
Wandsworth officers spotted a vehicle at around 11.15am which was "known" for several catalytic converter thefts in "several" London boroughs.
Officers pursued the vehicle and were also followed by a marked response vehicle.
According to police, the suspect vehicle was seen driving dangerously on the wrong side of the road and in the opposite direction of one way streets.
A police helicopter followed the vehicle and a man was chased on foot and subsequently arrested on Tooting Common.
The car was allegedly on false plates and a car jack and other false plates were reportedly found.
A man, 24, was arrested on suspicion of theft from a motor vehicle, namely catalytic converters, failing to stop, dangerous driving, and going equipped to commit fraud.
The man remains in custody and the police investigation is ongoing.
Wandsworth Police officers said: "Yesterday at around 11:15 officers spotted a vehicle known to us for several catalytic convertor thefts in several boroughs of London.
"A pursuit followed by a marked response vehicle.
"The suspect vehicle was seen driving dangerously on the wrong side of the road and in the opposite direction of one way streets.
"Our colleagues from the National Police Air Service followed the vehicle by helicopter and the male was eventually chased on foot and arrested on Tooting Common.
"The car was found to be on false plates.
"A car jack and other false plates were also found.
"He was arrested for theft from motor vehicle (namely catalytic converters), failing to stop, dangerous driving and going equipped to commit fraud.
"Investigation remains ongoing, the 24 year old male remains in custody."
