A loving grandfather who “always had a smile on his face” died after an incident.
Alfred ‘John’ Bates, 73, died in Spencers Croft in Harlow after a disturbance on May 1.
Four people were arrested and have since been released on bail.
His family described Alfred as a beloved husband, devoted father of two and loving grandfather.
In a tribute, they said: “He was a well known and loved member of the community who always had a smile on his face and always wanted to help in any way he could.
“He will be truly missed by his family, friends and all that knew him. He will be forever in our hearts and will never be forgotten.”
Another man was taken to hospital with injuries after the incident.
A man and teenager, 26 and 16, have been bailed until May 19 and two other two men, 47 and 32, until May 27.
