A woman and child have escaped a flat fire in Mitcham that is believed to have been started due to a fault in a lithium-ion battery.
London Fire Brigade was called to a flat fire in Kennet Square, Mitcham at 2.10pm yesterday.
Part of a four-room flat on the third floor of the building was damaged by the fire.
The woman and child escaped the flat before the Brigade arrived.
The brigade said there were no reports of any injuries.
Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from Mitcham, Tooting and Wimbledon stations brought the blaze under control by 2.54pm.
A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire in a flat in Kennet Square, Mitcham.
“Part of a four-roomed flat on the third floor was damaged by fire.
“A woman and child left the flat before the Brigade arrived.
“There were no reports of any injuries.
“The Brigade was called at 1410 and the fire was under control by 1454.
“Fire crews from Mitcham, Tooting and Wimbledon stations attended the incident.
“The cause of the fire is believed to be a fault in a lithium-ion battery.”
