A video has circulated on social media showing police officers repeatedly 'punching' a 16-year-old during an arrest.

Police were called to Abbey Wood, south east London on June 10 to reports of a child being robbed by another group of boys.

One of the boys in the group allegedly threatened the victim with a bottle.

Officers visited an address in Abbey Wood and recovered the stolen property before a 16-year-old suspect tried to flee the home.

The video shows the boy in a fenced garden, appearing to be repeatedly 'punched' by officers and shouting “Help me”.

At one point the youth appears to be hit while held down on the ground.

A person off-camera can be heard shouting: “They are bashing him up.”

A tweet from @BLMKidsUK reads: “Kicking, punching used by many police to detain what’s said to be a 16-year-old child.

“Can you enlighten the public why such force/brutality was used for us to possibly understand?”

Metropolitan Police spokesperson has said that “all Met officers know that any use of force must be necessary and proportionate, and that they will be required to account for their actions.”

He was detained and arrested by officers on suspicion of robbery and possession of an offensive weapon.

The boy has since been released on bail.

Another 16-year-old boy entered the home and allegedly assaulted police officers, two of which suffered minor injuries.

He was then also arrested on suspicion of common assault of an emergency worker and has since been released while investigations are ongoing.

Metropolitan Police have said that this footage of the arrest, along with video from the body-worn cameras that the officers carry, will be reviewed by officers from the Directorate of Professional Standards.
