A man who sexually assaulted and harassed women in Southwark has been caught and convicted.

Chai Thomas-Manners, 28, of Basingdon Way in Camberwell, appeared at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, July 7, where he pleaded guilty to the following offences:

Eight counts of sexual assault by touching in relation to incidents on Tuesday, July 5.

Three counts of sexual assault by touching in relation to incidents Wednesday, April 27.

One count of production of cannabis.

On Tuesday, July 5, police received eight reports, the first in the morning and others throughout the day, alleging that a man was sexually assaulting and harassing women in the Camberwell and Ruskin Park areas.

As a result of an urgent investigation, a suspect was identified and arrested later the same day.

Further enquiries were carried out when the suspect was in custody.

This resulted in him being linked to a further three sexual assaults that occurred in the Champion Hill area on Wednesday, April 27.

A sentencing date is yet to be confirmed.

Superintendent Dan Ivey, from the local policing team in Southwark, said: "Our officers launched a fast-moving and thorough investigation meaning a dangerous offender has been taken off the streets and will no longer pose a risk to the community.

"We recognise how much work we have to do to regain trust and confidence of women. Across the Met, we are committed to doing all we can to make London a safer place for women and girls and I hope this case demonstrates that we take such allegations extremely seriously.

"I would like to pay tribute to the bravery of the women who came forward to assist our investigation at what would have been a very distressing time for them."
