A MAN has been charged following a crash involving a pedicab and a car which killed a woman in Southwark.
Luis Fernanado Balcazr-Soto, of Law Street, was charged today (July 11) with a series of driving offences.
The 24-year-old was charged with causing death and causing serious injury by dangerous driving and causing death by driving a vehicle whilst unlicensed and uninsured.
He was also charged with breaching a restraining order.
The incident happened in New Kent Road at 4.10am yesterday (July 10).
Officers attended with London Ambulance Service crews.
A woman in her 30s, who was believed to have been a passenger in the pedicab, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her family has been informed.
The pedicab driver, who was a man in his 30s, currently remains in hospital with a suspected broken arm.
A woman in her 20s, who was a passenger in the pedicab, left immediately before the crash and was not injured.
A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: "Luis Fernanado Balcazr-Soto, 24 (03.01.98) of Law Street, SE1 was charged on Monday, 11 July with: - Causing death by dangerous driving; - Cause serious injury dangerous driving; - Cause death by driving a vehicle whilst unlicensed; - Cause death by driving a vehicle whilst uninsured; - Breach of restraining order.
"He was kept in custody to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court that same day. The charges follow a call to police at 04:10hrs on Sunday, 10 July, to reports of a car in collision with a pedicab on New Kent Road, SE1.
"Officers attended the location along with the London Ambulance Service.
"Despite the efforts of emergency services, a woman aged in her 30s – believed to have been a passenger in the pedicab - was pronounced dead at the scene, her family have been informed.
"The pedicab driver – a man, aged in his 30s - was taken to hospital suffering a suspected broken arm, he currently remains in hospital.
"A woman in her 20s who had been a passenger in the pedicab had left immediately prior to the collision and was not injured."
