A thief from Bromley has been jailed after assaulting an emergency worker while armed with a bread knife, and stealing alcohol from a Tesco store in Lewisham across three days.
On June 23, 2022, Caroline Betts stole alcohol, to the value of £141.25, from a Tesco store on Lewisham Road.
She had a bread knife with her and assaulted an emergency worker inside the supermarket.
The day before on June 22, Betts stole alcohol to the value of £130 from the same store.
She also stole £138 worth of alcohol the day prior – on June 21.
The 33-year-old pleaded guilty to all five offences at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on July 20, 2022.
Betts was committed to prison for six months, suspended for 12 months, because the court deemed the offences as “so serious”.
She was also given a £128 fine, made up of compensation costs.
The court found that Betts, of Tylney Road in Bromley, has a long history of offending, but the root cause has not been addressed.
She must now complete drug rehabilitation for up to a maximum of 40 days.
Betts must pay £20 per month commencing September 20, 2022.
