POUNDLAND has confirmed that its branch in Plumstead will reopen after it was left damaged by a fire. 

The store in Plumstead High Street temporarily closed after a fire broke out on April 17.

A spokesperson for Poundland said it is taking this opportunity to revamp the store and carry out repairs.  

The spokesperson also said it is working hard to get the store ready for reopening "as soon as possible."

Six fire engines and around 40 fighters tackled the blaze which broke out at 3.52pm.

The ground floor of the store was damaged by the fire. 

Three women were led to safety by firefighters. 

Another four adults left the flats above the store before the arrival of the brigade.  

No injuries were reported following the incident.  

The fire was under control just before 5.35pm. 

Fire crews from Plumstead, Erith, East Greenwich and Bromley fire stations were at the scene. 

The fire is believed to have been accidental and caused by a fault within an air conditioning unit. 

A spokesperson for Poundland said: "Sadly, our store in High Street, Plumstead, has been temporarily closed following a fire in April.  

“Fortunately, nobody was hurt.  

“As well as carrying out repairs, we’re taking the opportunity to give the store a facelift and we’re working hard to get it ready for reopening as soon as possible.  

“We’ll be in touch in the next few weeks once we’ve got more news." 

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a fire at a shop with flats above on Plumstead High Street on 17 April 2022. 

“The ground floor of the mid-terraced shop was damaged by the fire. 

“Firefighters led three women to safety and another four adults left the flats above before the Brigade arrived.  

“There were no reports of any injuries. 

“The Brigade was called at 1552 and the fire was under control by 1734.  

“Fire crews from Plumstead, Erith, East Greenwich and Bromley fire stations were at the scene. 

“The fire is believed to have been accidental and caused by a fault within an air conditioning unit.”
