Eight fire engines tackled a grass fire on Dartford Heath yesterday.
The brigade was first called to Heath Land at 4.10pm.
The crew brought the fire under control by 7.35pm but remained on scene during the night dampening down any remaining hot spots.
People living nearby were advised to close windows and doors due to the smoke coming from the blaze.
The cause of the fire is not known at this stage and no injuries have been reported.
Dartford Heath has seen several large grass fires during the past few weeks, including a 10-hectare fire just five days ago.
Kent firefighters have tackled more than 400 grass fires since the start of July, which is nine times the amount attended in the same period last year.
A spokesperson for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: “Kent Fire and Rescue Service attended a grass fire on Dartford Heath, near Heath Lane, Dartford.
“At the height of the fire, eight fire engines were sent to the scene, which was reduced to four fire engines and a multi-terrain vehicle.
“While the cause is not yet known, firefighters are asking members of the public to help reduce the risk of a grass fire by following our safety advice:
“• Avoid having bonfires at this time
“• Disposing of smoking materials responsibly, making sure they’re fully stubbed out and cold before being binned - consider using a portable ashtray when on the go
“• Keep barbecues on a flat, non-flammable surface, away from property and greenery
“Remember – if you see a grass fire move to a safe place and call 999.”
