Police say a driver whose car mounted a kerb and “ploughed into” pedestrians is believed to have suffered a medical episode at the wheel.

The Metropolitan Police were called at 9.41pm on Friday September 2 after a car mounted the pavement and struck two men and narrowly missed another in Hermon Hill, South Woodford, at the junction with Trafalgar Place.

Three men were taken to The Royal London Hospital, although only two were hit by the car.

According to the wife of one of the men hit by the car, witnesses saw the driver exit a silver car complaining of chest pains after it mounted the kerb, but the family had not been able to obtain more information from police.

She said the three men were friends and neighbours walking down the street together, when the vehicle “ploughed into” them.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “A car mounted the pavement and struck two pedestrians.

"Two men aged in their 70s and 60s were taken to hospital.

“Their injuries were not life-threatening.

“The driver of the car was taken to hospital following a suspected medical episode at the wheel.

“His condition is not life-threatening.”

Police confirmed no arrests have been made but said enquires into the crash are ongoing.
