Hundreds of people gathered in Harrow town centre to hear the proclamation of King Charles III.

Harrow mayor Cllr Janet Mote held two formal proclamations in Harrow to mark the major national event on Sunday, September 11.

The first speech was at the front of Harrow Civic Centre at 2pm and a large crowd were gathered by the car park to watch it take place.

However the second reading near Katy’s statue in Harrow town centre managed to attract even more people as shoppers and onlookers heard the speech and the national anthem.

The mayor was joined by deputy lieutenant Simon Ovens for the reading.

After Cllr Mote ended the proclamation with “God save the King”, the crowd began to chant the words.

The Union flag outside the Civic Centre has also been lowered to half-mast until the day after the state funeral on September 19, to honour the passing of Her Majesty.
