Crime was the hot topic during a debate by the three major party candidates for London Mayor.
Labour incumbent Ken Livingstone said he was proud of London's murder rate dropping by 28 per cent over five years.
Conservative Boris Johnson said he would cut red tape and get more police in the streets while Liberal Democrat and former senior Metropolitan Police officer Brian Paddick said many members of the public distrusted the force too much to even ring them anonymously.
The debate was broadcast on the BBC last night.
Ten candidates are standing for mayor on May 1.
Along with Mr Livingstone, Mr Johnson and Mr Paddick, the Greens, UK Independence Party, the British National Party, Christian Choice, Left List, English Democrats and independent Winston McKenzie are on the ballot.
