Halloween comes around each year on the 31st of October and is prominent for children trick-or-treating, costume parties, spooky haunted house attractions, and much more! However, what are the origins of this popular tradition? Well, Halloween has been around for more than a thousand years, dating back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, the Celts believed that this day was to welcome in the harvest when entering the winter season, and was thought that spirits of the deceased will return, so the people would wear costumes to fend of the ghosts. Moreover, by the 1800s autumn festivals around the world incorporated these traditions that stand today, also creating their own twists to it, for instance the custom of trick-or-treating. Where children dress up and receive sweets from neighbours became favoured by the United States, now the amount of sweets sold on halloween exceeds $2.5 billion annually.

But, what makes Halloween truly enjoyable for children and even adults today? The excitement and jubilation of kids' faces when ringing the doorbell of decorated houses , it opens, they scream “TRICK-OR-TREAT” bags filled with sweets and tasty treats and then comes the rustling of sweet wrappers being opened late at night. Or, is it the chance to touch into your creative side, designing the outfit of your choice with endless possibilities . Additionally, for teens and adults arguably is the perfect excuse to organise a costume party; social clubs, bars, restaurants will not miss the opportunity to profit and host their own special halloween nights.

Every year, Tulleys farm, located in Crawley hosts ‘Shocktober fest’, which is the UKs No.1 Halloween attraction, offering terrifying haunts including: ‘Wasteland Penitentiary’ where paid actors play the role of prisoners and attempt to frighten you as you attentively walk through the attraction.  I had the opportunity to go visit it last year and it was honestly the most nerve wracking yet fun experience I've had during a halloween event. They offer a variety of scares, my favourite is ‘The Chop Shop’ due to the realistic acting skills, chainsaws and scenery. I'm not the only one who thinks the experience was thrilling, “It's our favourite scary place” says British girl band Little Mix and Rag’n’Bone Man, singer, states “Best night i've had all year! I'm going to come every year.” on the Tulleys farm website. On top of the halloween fun of traditional trick-or-treating, costume parties, pumpkin carving consider spending time in the best haunted halloween attraction to add a spooky highlight to your year.

Overall, Halloween has evolved into a fun and  boisterous day of the year in which many people look forward to.
