Wasia Project, a band formed in 2019, comprised of siblings William Gao and Olivia Hardy impressively sold out their headliner show at the Garage in Highbury and Islington.
The band saw a surge in followers after pianist and singer William Gao acted in critically acclaimed ‘Heartstopper’ playing the character of Tao Xu.
The night opened with support act Lexie Carroll, who amazed the crown with her acoustic guitar set and her incredibly talented band. Carroll expressed nervousness as it was one of her first experiences performing on stage.
Chanting in the crowd and excited faces welcomed the main act, Wasia Project. The band performed all of their original songs; ‘misfit biscuit’, ‘ur so pretty’, ‘how can I pretend’, along with many more, and even sang covers of, ‘ I will survive’. The duo even surprised the crowd with a live performance of their unreleased song ‘My Vine’ which can only be heard on soundcloud.
During the show William Gao along with drummer Luca Wade and bassist Tom Pacitti left the stage leaving Olivia Hardy to do her mesmerising solo of ‘ur so pretty’. A fan had previously handed out paper gold stars while people were waiting in the queue that they had arranged to hold up during this song. As the crowd did this, singer Olivia Hardy got teary eyes and expressed her gratitude for the crowd in front of her.
The night closed with an angelic version of their own song ‘Impossible’.
Wasia Project are doing another London show at the Omeara 17th December, tickets go on sale Friday 4th November at 9am.
