Sainsbury's Crayford was one of over 200 to close their cafe in early 2022 but as the Uk's second-largest supermarket chain, customers were left confused as to why.
However, shortly after the closure, the nationwide retailer announced the choice was part of a wider move to change their involvement in eat-in, takeaway, and home-delivered food. After a successful trial in a Birmingham store, the plans were confirmed. Sainsbury's would be opening new 'restaurant hubs' in replacement of their once-known cafes. After officially partnering with Boporan Restaurant Group, a collective of over 100 well-loved food chains, the foundations started to form.
The 'Restaurant Hub' officially opened in Crayford Sainsbury's during the week commencing November 22nd and the reception seems to have been great! With filled tables ever since, it seems customers are enjoying the new choice. With five new options to eat: Gourmet Burger Kitchen, Ed's Easy Diner, Harry Ramsden's, Slim Chickens, and Carluccio's. From baked goods to burgers, they certainly seem to have everything! With new items slowly being added to menus, and the delivery option, shoppers are certainly set for choice.
I spoke to local resident Christine Smith about what she thought of the new developments 'I think new business is great for Crayford and brings something fresh to the table. Not to mention the food is delicious and you can get it all in one place.' -sounds dangerous if you ask me!
Overall the 'Restaurant Hub' seems to be perceived well by the community, bringing new attractions and jobs to Crayford. Hopefully, you'll get a chance to visit the newest food hotspot in town.
