On the 3rd of December 2022, talented students currently attending Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama, displayed their musical aptitude in an exciting performance of symphony orchestra and string ensemble.
Junior Guildhall is a specialist Saturday School which offers the experience to learn about music and drama with the support of staff from London’s orchestras, senior professors of Guildhall School and other professionals. Of Junior Guildhall Year 13 Leavers, 54% have then gone on to study music or drama at degree level, showing how this institution not only supports its young people as students but also provides them with guidance for moving into a career. Furthermore, its success is evidenced not only by the spectacular performance this December, but also by their music alumni including Thomas Adès and Lucy Parham.
Principal oboe student at Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Asiyah Kharodia, provided insight into what the institution offers and how this is manifested in its performances, such as the one this December. Asiyah explained that ‘attending Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama allows me to regularly perform in not only solo, but ensemble and orchestral settings too. It’s incredibly fulfilling, and whilst it can be challenging, it’s very rewarding! Seeing an audience enjoy your performance, and the hard work that has gone into preparing it, is very inspiring, and to share that musical experience with others is greatly gratifying.’
The performance was awe-inspiring, as it was remarkable to see how proficient these young musicians are, and made the audience excited for the future of music. Anyone could enjoy the performance, no matter what their musical background or experience: the music was sensational. The atmosphere on the early December evening was exceptional, as family and friends came together to see the incredible students engage in breathtaking music and create a truly unforgettable sound.
This performance at Milton Court was a thrilling opportunity to get a sense of just how involved young people are in the arts, so do not miss out in attending the next Junior Guildhall performances.
