We posed the question on our Facebook page “What’s one thing you’ll always see when driving through south east London?” and we received almost 300 responses.

Our readers shared their responses and they ranged widely from crime to chicken shops.

The majority of comments left were pointing out road and traffic issues in the area.

Phyl Cox said: “Potholes.”

Vicki Rushton seconded this point, she said: “Absolutely massive potholes.”

Kat Hogan complained that she always sees road works when driving through south east London.

Elayne Jones added: “Temporary lights.”

Nathan Turner said: “Signs saying every other vehicle can use this bit of road but you!”

On a similar note, Jean Deacon said: “Too many cycle lanes.”

Crime was another topic that came up frequently in the responses.

Benjamin Crawford simply said “police” in response to the question of what you will always see when driving through south east London.

Angela Kirton Porter said: “A fight.”

Fly tipping seems to be something else that south east Londoners frequently spot.

Both Chris Pett and Greg Caswell said that they often see abandoned mattresses.

Lynn Hubbard, however, said that she will often see “dumped ironing boards”.

However, the responses weren’t all doom and gloom.

Stephen Dawson said that when he drives through south east London, he sees: “The unexpected. I love it.”

Shaun Kelly said: “My beautiful face. Born and bred, south east London."
