As the city-wide expansion of the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) draws near Sutton Council will dedicate a meeting to discussing the changes.

This August the £12.50 a day charge is set to be rolled out to cover the whole of the capital, including Sutton.

The authority is inviting locals to air their views of the extension of the zone at a meeting on Monday (April 24).

Sutton Council has come out against the expansion and said it will not support it unless public transport in the borough is improved, the scrappage scheme is expanded and the scheme is delayed until the cost of living crisis is over.

Sutton residents against the plans came out in force to protest at the last full council meeting in March.

However, as ULEZ was not on the agenda it was hardly discussed.

Those wishing to speak at the next meeting have been asked to register on the council’s website.

There will be a limit on how many people can speak.

Sutton mayor, Councillor Trish Fivey, said: “It was clear at the last meeting of the council how strongly many Sutton residents and businesses feel about the Mayor of London’s proposed extension of the ULEZ to our borough.

“Anyone living, working or studying in Sutton can attend the next meeting of the council when we will be discussing ULEZ in more detail.

"You will need to register your interest in speaking in advance as the venue has a limited capacity.”

The meeting will take place at Sutton Central Library from 6pm on Monday, April 24.
