The University of Warwick is currently conducting a round of deep thinking questions for Year 10 students in what has now been named the National Scientific Thinking Challenge. You might be interested to know that the whole genius idea was actually the culmination of a group of friends who wanted to provide a testing experience for students who were left a little out of sorts due to the pandemic. The challenge is designed to be motivational and positive based on knowledge that students already hold.
Thankfully it is not just another test or exam we have to revise for! The challenge entails students analysing data, graphs and text and arriving at conclusions based on their knowledge and understanding of the material. Personally I like a bit of a challenge so am definitely looking forward to it. The other bit of good news is that is it completely free of charge!
The challenge only takes a mere 50 minutes to complete and this means that it can be successfully finished within a lesson. The thing that I’m really excited about is the fact that students who participate have the opportunity to achieve gold, silver and bronze positions. Maybe it’s because I go to a grammar school that this prospect sounds fun or maybe I just like a good competition. Whatever the case, students will also be given certificates for the challenge which is always a nice touch for those personal statements we look forward to constructing at the end of our GCSEs!
