The residents of Epsom and Ewell have been protesting the introduction of building green belt sites which included the building of 5,400 new homes.
The council have put together a plan which decides when and where these new houses will be built on green belt sites and ,in Epsom and Ewells case, the project is estimated to finish in 2040. Meaning that many areas full of rich nature will be cut down to make space for housing which will negatively impact our environment massively.
The inhabitants of Epsom and Ewell have been protesting outside of the Epsom town hall and in the Epsom high street, wearing green belts and banners, chanting “green not greed”. Many residents have also been signing petitions to stop this and have collected over 10,000 signatures in hope to save these green sites.
These protests have led to a public consultation which started on Wednesday February 1st at 12:00 and will end on Sunday March 19th at 23:59 which will give the public a chance to share their views and feelings towards the new scheme
