Across the UK, millions celebrated the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camila on Saturday, May 6. 

Many local councils held special events from screenings to parties and community events to help mark the historic occasion. 

But as ever, celebration comes with a cost with it now being revealed just how much each council spent on the coronation

Some South East London boroughs kept the purse strings tight whilst in comparison others splashed out. 

How much did South East London boroughs spend on the King's Coronation?

The data, created by Open Democracy, found that some councils in the region were more willing to spend than others. 

  • Bexley -No response
  • Bromley - £50,000
  • Greenwich - £5,162
  • Lewisham - No response
  • Southwark - £0

Both Bexley and Lewisham did not respond to the question about costs but fellow councils were happy to respond.

With the likes of Bromley council spending the most on the celebration at £50,000 whilst Southwark didn't spend a penny at £0. 

Bromley council did also share that the £50,000 will be taken from its community fund, usually reserved for grants to charities.

Greenwich spent £5,162 on the coronation making it one the cheapest councils in the whole of the UK. 

Elsewhere in London, the west borough of Ealing Council spent more than another council in London at a cost of £182,268.85.

Ealing shared that the money was used for a live screening of the event, several musical performances and a fireworks display.
